Good morning, it's Saturday, October 31, and this is The Daily Punchlist. Happy Halloween. The scariest thing on most jobs isn't a costume. It's a safety form that never got filled out.
Today's theme is AI and robots meeting crews where they already are. That means phone calls in the field, robots paid by the task, and trade talks that could change what the next machine costs.
In today's issue
- Sitemate's Storm 2.0 lets crews fill out forms by phone call or WhatsApp
- Maximo Robotics says its solar robots have finished 300,000 install tasks
- White House calls imported robots a security issue, but no tariffs yet
- Snaptrude launches an AI agent that takes a design from massing to BIM
1. Sitemate's Storm 2.0 lets crews fill out forms by phone call or WhatsApp
Sitemate released Storm 2.0, which moves its AI form filling off the app and onto phone calls, text messages and WhatsApp. A foreman can tap Call, have Storm ring him, and report a missing trench barrier in Spanish while the AI fills in the form. Over WhatsApp or SMS, workers answer one question at a time and send photos into the chat, then review, sign and submit.
Why it matters: The hard part of any safety program is getting forms done by people who'd rather be working. If a foreman can report a hazard from his truck in his own language, more of what happens on site gets written down. Talk is cheap, but now it's a record.

2. Maximo Robotics says its solar robots have finished 300,000 install tasks
Maximo Robotics announced that its US-made robots have completed more than 300,000 construction tasks on utility-scale solar jobs. Customers pay per task completed instead of buying the machine. The company says it's working with six large EPC contractors on sites in seven states, and Primoris' renewables business helped bring it into solar installs.
The fine print: Maximo says crews working with its new Max 4.0 hit 2.5 times their manual install rates per person per shift hour. Robot24 notes the claim isn't independently verified.
Why it matters: Pay-per-task puts the risk on the robot company, not the contractor. If the panel doesn't get placed, nobody sends a bill for it. No module, no money.

3. White House calls imported robots a security issue, but no tariffs yet
On Oct 28, the President signed a Section 232 proclamation finding that imports of robots, industrial machinery and their parts threaten national security. Instead of setting tariffs now, it tells the Commerce Secretary and the US Trade Representative to negotiate with trading partners. An analyst quoted by The Robot Report says that if tariffs or quotas follow, they could hit pricing and the parts that go into robots.
Why it matters: A lot of automation equipment, and the parts inside it, comes from overseas. If you're pricing a robot or a new machine for next year, keep an eye on these talks before you sign. Buy the robot, but read the trade news too.
Date to watch: Boston Dynamics' Brendan Schulman told The Robot Report the negotiations run over the next six months.

4. Snaptrude launches an AI agent that takes a design from massing to BIM
Snaptrude launched Snaptrude Agent, which lays out a plan for multi-step design work that the user approves or changes before it runs. Snaptrude says it can turn massing into LoD 400 BIM models with structure and MEP in minutes, make drawing sets to a firm's standards, and hand models to Revit with families kept. Projects can come in from Revit, Rhino or SketchUp.
The fine print: The minutes-to-LoD 400 claim is Snaptrude's own, as reported by AEC Magazine.
Why it matters: Faster design means drawings hit the street sooner. LoD 400 is fabrication-level detail, so somebody on the build side will want to check it before it goes to the shop. Fast drawings still need a slow look.

The Daily Old Joke
I was going to tell you a joke about concrete, but it hasn't set yet.
Tool of the day: Sitemate
Sitemate makes field software for safety, quality, field reporting, fleet and asset processes, and Storm is the AI that fills in its forms from a call, a text or the app (story #1). The worker still reviews and signs every record. https://dailypunchlist.com/tools/field/sitemate/ · https://sitemate.com
