Good morning, it's Thursday, October 29, and this is The Daily Punchlist. Every super has asked "where are we on the schedule?" and gotten three different answers. Today, a few companies want the software to give one.
Today's theme is getting straight answers out of project data. Schedules, site progress and engineering models are all getting AI that answers questions, while the people still make the calls.
In today's issue
- Planera plans to let Claude and ChatGPT read your live schedule
- NCC makes Buildots a preferred supplier across the Nordics
- IFS exec: AI on site isn't cutting jobs, and Excel still runs huge contracts
- Allplan spreads AI across its engineering and steel detailing tools
1. Planera plans to let Claude and ChatGPT read your live schedule
Planera, which makes CPM scheduling software for contractors, announced an upcoming integration built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI assistants to business software. Once it ships, teams will be able to ask Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants plain-language questions about live Planera schedules, like which projects are at risk or what's driving the critical path. Planera didn't give a release date.
Why it matters: Today, getting schedule data next to cost data usually means somebody exporting spreadsheets on a Friday night. If the assistant can read the live schedule, the PM asks one question instead of building one report. Fewer exports, more answers.

2. NCC makes Buildots a preferred supplier across the Nordics
Buildots signed a master services agreement with NCC Building Nordics, which operates in Denmark, Finland and Norway, naming it a preferred supplier. Buildots uses AI and site imagery to check progress against the schedule and the 3D model. NCC says years of use in Finland and Denmark gave it the evidence it needed.
The fine print: Buildots says one NCC project saw a 230% increase in Percent Plan Complete. That's the company's number.
Why it matters: A preferred-supplier deal means a big GC decided the pilot phase is over. When percent complete gets measured instead of reported, the trade that's behind can't hide it until the end of the month. Keep your lookahead honest.

3. IFS exec: AI on site isn't cutting jobs, and Excel still runs huge contracts
Global Construction Review interviewed Kenny Ingram, VP of construction and engineering at software company IFS. He said he hasn't seen real evidence that companies are using AI to reduce labour, and that one big contractor trying AI agents for procurement still had to hire procurement staff on site. He also described a £15 billion construction business running huge road contracts in Excel.
Why it matters: The story on the ground is more practical than the headlines: less number crunching, more time for people to decide. He also says mid-market firms adopt faster because there are fewer layers of politics. Fix the spreadsheet before you buy the robot.

4. Allplan spreads AI across its engineering and steel detailing tools
AEC Magazine reports that Nemetschek's Allplan launched Allplan Max 2027, AI built into Allplan, Allplan Civil, Frilo, SCIA and SDS2. It includes an AI Structural Analyst that interprets analysis results, and in SDS2 an AI Drafter that places erection-drawing labels without overlaps. Allplan says engineers stay responsible for design intent, review and approval.
Why it matters: Cleaning up labels on erection drawings is the kind of hour-eating job nobody went to school for. If the detailer gets that time back, the steel erector gets cleaner drawings sooner. Let the software move the labels.

The Daily Old Joke
The landscaper handed the new guy a pallet of sod and said, "Go lay this out back."
The new guy asked, "Any tips?"
The landscaper said, "Green side up!"
